Series: Miami Masters Book 4
Genre: Erotic Romance, Suspense
Publisher: Blushing Books
Publication Date: April 13, 2018
He was determined to protect her, but will holding back the secrets of their pasts jeopardize their future and her safety?
Hope Wallace left Atlanta after being betrayed by her family and friends in the worst way. Now, running a homeless shelter in downtown Miami, she was finally doing what she wanted with her life and working at putting the past behind her. The only thing marring her happiness was the constant desire to explore the BDSM lifestyle her new friends enjoyed so much. She had tried that once, and it led to disaster and losing everything, but the urges kept pulling at her until she finally succumbed and braved going to a club.
Miles Cavenaugh fell for Hope the minute he saw her bruised face and determination to protect a friend and resident at her shelter. His violent childhood kept him from forming relationships, his fear of losing his temper if he came across someone harming an innocent woman or child made him anti-social and preferring to stick with his close friends for companionship. But when he hears Hope is at a local BDSM club while there is a serial abuser of submissives making the rounds in Florida, he rushes to ensure she stays safe.
Unable to continue keeping each other at armís length, Miles and Hope agree to a short-term affair where heíll introduce her to the lifestyle she craved until she got her interest out of her system. But an unknown person is determined that Hope not find the happiness that has eluded her for so long and both Miles and her may have waited too long to come clean with each other about their pasts.

Book Excerpt

With the wall at her back, Hope Wallace tried to tamp down her fear while refusing to back down from the aggressive crowding by this irate ex-boyfriend of a shelter guest. His belligerence wasnít anything she hadnít been subjected to before, but her heart never failed to lodge in her throat when she stood face to face with a large, angry man intent on causing trouble, and her harm.
ìBack off, Davidson, before I have you arrested for violating your restraining order,î she demanded, wishing her voice hadnít emerged as a trembling whisper instead of the controlled strength sheíd been striving for. Traci, her receptionist, already called the cops, who were always quick to respond to a 911 from the shelter.
Davidson got in her face and snapped, ìYou and what army, bitch?î
ìNo army, just me. Back off, like the lady said.î
Hope saw Milesí hand clamp down on Davidsonís shoulder before she noticed his presence or heard his deep voice, the one that never failed to send a shiver of awareness dancing down her spine. Even in the midst of a nasty scene, her body responded to his black eyes drilling her with an intent, probing look that worried her on several levels.
Davidson spun around, whether with help from Milesí grip or all on his own, she couldnít tell. ìMind your own fucking business,î he sneered. ìThis is between me and my old lady.î
ìNot anymore.î Sidling around Davidson, Hope glared at Miles before placing herself between him and her unwelcome guest. She couldnít afford any more trouble. Ignoring the low growl rumbling from Milesí throat, and the way her nipples pulsed in response, she placed her hands on her hips. Sirens grew louder as a police car pulled up out front, lending her even more bravado to get in this manís face, just to see how he liked it. ìSheís done with you. Get used to it and stay away from her, and my place.î
Two cops rushed inside and wasted no time hauling him off in handcuffs. Hope breathed a sigh of relief, her heart rate slowing down until she faced Milesí wrath. Funny how his anger induced a whole different response than the instant fear Davidsonís had. The threat he posed wasnít one of physical harm, but she had other reasons for keeping her distance from him.

About BJ Wane

I live in the Midwest with my husband and our two dogs. I love dogs, enjoy spending time with my daughter, babysitting dogs and kids, reading and working puzzles. We have traveled extensively throughout the states, Canada and just once overseas, but I now much prefer being homebody. I worked for a while writing articles for a local magazine but soon found my interest in writing for myself peaking. My first book was strictly spanking erotica, but I slowly evolved to writing erotic spanking romance with a touch of suspense. My favorite genre to read is suspense.
