Excerpt:
âSplit up!â Lucas called, charging left with three monks on his heels. They went head to head with the ground minions. Seamus and Dean went right, staying close to the two monks. Lucas was surrounded. Three winged beasts swooped in trying to snatch them up, but Lucas and the monks managed to foil their attempts. The monks were ramming their heels, knees, elbows, and fists into any attacker in their way. Lucas drew his Wakizashi swords and began slashing demons, spilling their intestines, and severing heads from bodies. The scene was reminiscent of a Middle Age killing field. He knew he needed to gash open a pathway like a maggot eating its way through flesh to find the demon leader. Wiping the crimson life-forced infused fluid off his face, Lucas cast a quick glance at Seamus and Dean to see if they were taking advantage of the blood soaked opening he was creating. A winged demon snapped the neck of one monk and tore the jugular out of another with his teeth. They were dying out here in the open, like a rabbit in an open field caught in the eyes of a raptor. Casualties amid clouds of black dust continued to litter the field. âMove under the pillars,â Seamus yelled. Lucas pulled back so they would be protected by the roof and support columns surrounding the grassy courtyard. They regrouped. âLetâs harpoon that mother fucker and pull him down to us,â Lucas pointed to the blackhorned demon heâd identified as the leader. âIf we can take him down, we might stand a chance.â The hoard moved in like the fog off a stormy sea. Kat was born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin where she learned to roller skate, ride a banana seat bike, and love Shakespeare. She holds a Doctor of Pharmacy degree and is happily employed as a retail pharmacist. She is married to her soul mate, composer Lee de Falla and raising four kids together ala the Brady Bunch. The Seer's Lover was Kat's first book and she is working feverishly on four different series at the moment!

My name is Olivia Bloom and I. Am. Free. I left for LA with everything I owned piled into my old Volkswagen and dreams of becoming a costume designer. Little did I know I’d wind up designing for a lingerie company—yeah, not sure how I landed this gig—and taken under the wing of two young Hollywood insiders. Berkeley is everything I've ever dreamed of in a boyfriend, but the paparazzi, the tabloids, the rumors, it's all getting a bit too crazy. My life has become every girl’s dream come true, if only I don’t blink and lose it all…

Becoming a vampire complicates things. So does a bizarre mentor, a group of vampire hunters, and an unexpected, new attraction for his openly gay best friend, Connor. An occasional uncontrollable hunger for blood might be the least of his worries. PURCHASE THE BOOK HERE! Excerpt “You’ve already fed, it seems, though quite poorly.” Alec squinted at Connor, at the Band-Aid on his neck peeking out of the sweatshirt, and reached without warning to rip it from his skin. “Ow!” Connor’s teal hand flew up to the red and angry puncture wounds. “Don’t be a baby,” Alec chided him, “I’m just going to show our fledgling here—so sorry, dear boy,” his gaze snapped to me, “but I haven’t actually gotten your name yet.” He folded up Connor’s Band-Aid and tossed it at my waste basket. At least he didn’t miss. I had to tell him if only to stop him from calling either me or Connor ‘dear boy’ again. “Emery. And you’re going to show me what?” “How to heal your good work, of course.” Alec grinned at Connor in a somehow equally playful and predatory manner. “Now move that lovely contraption of yours aside and let me demonstrate.” Connor backed up a step. “What are you—” “Don’t be difficult,” Alec said and caught Connor in a fierce stare. A stare that moments later had Connor’s arm dropping back to his side while a blank look washed over his face. “Hey!” I hissed before Alec could take a single step closer to Connor. “You can’t just glamour him!” Alec frowned at me like I was the one being unreasonable. “I think I just did.” “I mean you don’t…have permission. I won’t let you.” It dawned on me as I said this that Connor and I had forgotten one of the major vampire tropes to test out—needing permission to enter someone’s home. Obviously, Alec hadn’t needed permission to sneak into my room. Or did it not count since I lived here and was also a vampire? But I didn’t own the house, it belonged to my parents; or did that not matter either? I pushed these questions aside for now and pointed to Connor, who stood there staring forward like a wax statue, which was really disturbing. “Let him go!” Alec rolled his eyes and, without any seeming effort, broke the spell. Connor blinked awareness and continued right on as if he hadn’t lost any time. “—planning to do, because you need to at least explain whatever it is before you do it.” “We could go over some glamouring basics as well,” Alec ignored him, “since you seem to be under the impression it’s dangerous or some rubbish. Clearly, he isn’t hurt. You merely need to get better at enthralling people and then releasing them when you’re done.” “Fine, but no more glamouring Connor without permission,” I said. “Wait, he did what?” Connor shot Alec a glare. “See, he doesn’t even realize anything happened. What’s it matter?” “Because it matters.” We engaged in maybe a ten second staring match before Alec yielded, his manic smile coming back in full force as he laughed. “My, you are fun,” he said. “Well done, Emery. I would have worried about William’s common sense after all if you were flippant about consent.” ![]() Author Bio Amanda has a Bachelor of Arts in a personally designed major from St. Olaf College in Creative Writing, and has been posting content online for many years, including maintaining the blog for the digital marketing company Outsell. EXCERPT Denrikk sighed. “Please, call me Denrikk. It’s my true name.” “It will be my honor, friend Denrikk,” the prince proclaimed. Denrikk rolled his eyes. Did royalty always speak this way? And the prince didn’t stop there. Kaleb spewed forth a constant and continuous stream of commentary and questions for the next several hours. By the time the sun was high in the sky and they had stopped to water their horses, Kaleb had told Denrikk all there was to know about Falcon’s Ridge and the steadily growing rebellion there. Kaleb was of the obvious opinion that the people rising against the kingdom were ungrateful peasants who couldn’t understand the intricacies of running a kingdom. Falcon’s Ridge had, in recent years, ended a long-going and costly war with Lion’s Hollow and in order to rebuild and maintain the kingdom, King Weston had sharply raised taxes on his people. With no foreseeable relief in sight, some in the kingdom had begun to openly rebel against the royalty. “They simply will not concede that in difficult times, sacrifices must be made,” Kaleb complained to Denrikk as they stretched their legs during the short respite from travel. “What exactly have you sacrificed?” Denrikk asked the prince. “Pardon me?” Kaleb appeared stunned by the bold question. “You said that sacrifices must be made,” Denrikk reminded him. “What sacrifices have you made?” “Denrikk, we are of noble birth. We are not serfs,” Kaleb scoffed. “It has forever been the burden of the common man to provide for the kingdom that protects his family and his land. But if you must know, several of our estates in the eastern hills have fallen into disrepair. And we have had to cancel two, no three, state dinners with foreign ambassadors so as to avoid the appearance of squandering.” “To avoid the appearance of squandering,” Denrikk repeated Kaleb’s words back to him. “How many actual meals have your people had to skip because they cannot afford to put food on their tables?” Kaleb raised his chin. “Of course we sacrifice in different ways, but we all endure our hardships.” Denrikk shook his head. “Somehow, I think a man who hasn’t eaten in days wouldn’t consider your eastern estates falling into disrepair as much of a hardship.” ![]() Author Bio Kelly Hess is the author of the BlackMyst Trilogy. The rain poured down in torrents, slanting at a steep angle and driving into the deck, sounding like a thousand hammers. Above the ship, lightning flashed across the black sky, accompanied by roll after deafening roll of thunder. Tabia had read enough by then to know that some sorcerers had the ability to control the weather, or at least influence it, but every time she’d started to broach the subject with her mistress, her stomach had rebelled, sending her back to the railing. She considered attempting it on her own and though she didn’t relish the idea, she couldn’t help but try. She hung on tightly to the railing, looked up at the sky, blinking through a bolt of lightning and began to stare. As with the chakleti, nothing happened for a long while. She’d decided it wasn’t going to when the sky started to glow like a sunset against the thunderheads. The crew began to shout. Tabia didn’t need to look at them to know they were pointing at the clouds as they shifted, breaching overhead. A patch of blue sky visible in the centre. She was doing it. Tabia began to grin as the ship settled. The wind slowed to a stiff breeze. The temperature rose swiftly as the cloud split to reveal the sun. She followed them with her eyes, pushing them a mile from their anchorage. The crew let out a resounding cheer and Tabia turned, triumphant, to face them. Until she heard a resounding crack echo across the ocean. Whipping her head back, she watched the clouds disintegrate. The water within them gushed from the sky, hundreds of gallons raining a tumult on perhaps a quarter mile of sea in a circle around the ship. The waves rose, slowly at first, before the force of the rain pushed them higher and faster, smashing them against the hull. The ship started to list dangerously to one side. Everything not nailed down slid down the deck to the opposite railing, including Tabia, who slammed painfully into the mast, bounced and slid the rest of the way as the waves threatened to engulf the ship. ![]() Wear White to Your Funeral
Goodreads / Amazon / Barnes & Noble / Kobo -- EXCERPT: Rory tried to pay attention until she heard a husky whisper. “Hey, new girl.” Rory turned toward the low voice. The boy with piercing blue eyes stared at her. “I’m Bowen.” “I caught that,” she whispered back. “Want to work together on the assignment?” “Is it a group project?” Rory was confused by the offer. “It is if you want it to be. Watch and learn. But first, say ‘yes.’” He was definitely bad-boy cute. Rory giggled. “Yes.” Maybe school wouldn’t be as horrible as she imagined. She felt optimistic for the first time that day. “Mrs. Miller?” Bowen interrupted. “Yes, Bowen.” Miller sounded slightly irritated, but not really. It was like she already knew what Bowen planned to ask. “The new girl.” He looked at Rory expectantly. “Rory.” She filled in her name for him. “I think Rory needs help with the assignment, being new here and all,” Bowen said. “Do you now?” Mrs. Miller looked at him over the top of her librarian glasses, not believing for a minute his intentions were pure. “Why would you say that? I’m sure she is a capable young lady.” “You do have extremely high expectations,” Bowen replied, causing twitters of laughter to erupt from around the class. “And she has not been exposed to the inverted pyramid.” Rory had no idea what that was, so maybe she did need Bowen’s help. “So true. So true. You are a wise man Bowen Hesse. I believe it’s a good idea you pair up with Rory and demonstrate those high expectations.” “Every time, Mrs. Miller.” Mrs. Miller made a noise that did not sound at all teacher-like. “I expect a higher word count if you two are pairing up.” “Really?” He smiled at Rory and she noticed a slightly crooked tooth in an otherwise perfect smile. “Yes, really.” The teacher said through her own smile. He shrugged. “You got it. One hundred words at least.” The class chortled in unison. “You’re a jokester, Bowen. Class,” she addressed everyone now, “the minimum word count for this assignment is 750. Bowen, for you and Rory, it should be 1000 words.” His blue eyes widened. Groans quickly replaced the recent giggles that had echoed through the room. Class resumed, and Rory heard ideas for articles ranging from pumpkin carving to the best Halloween candy. With less than twenty minutes before the bell would ring, the class divided into groups based on the section of the newspaper or yearbook they wanted to write for. She was the exception. Rory watched as Bowen pulled his desk over to her. He stood two or three inches taller than her in his University of Connecticut basketball t-shirt and faded jeans. “So you up for writing about the White Lady?” “You don’t want to brainstorm other topics?” Rory was disappointed. She knew nothing of the local legend and hoped to do an article on something she had some background knowledge about. “We can, but I have a great idea for a story on the ghost.” “Really?” Rory didn’t want to lose the chance to work with Bowen and make a friend. “In that case, sure, but I don’t really know anything about her, being from the South.” “Where from?” The broken record began to play. “Atlanta.” “I want to know more. I’d like to go South one day.” “For college?” Bowen gave a non-committal shrug. His shirt climbed up his shoulder. The last words of his tattoo peeking out of the sleeve. “What are you doing tonight?” “Why?” Rory asked quietly. “I can give you a crash course on the White Lady.” He ran a hand through his short, spiky hair. Disheveled, he looked slightly dangerous but even more attractive. “Really?” Rory didn’t know where Bowen’s interest stemmed from. Back in Atlanta men like him would have left her — the bookworm, Honor Society, AP classes kind of student — alone, very alone. “Sure.” He gave her a devilish wink. Her heart stuttered. Her words followed. “Weellll, I have to have dinner with my aunt, but after that, I’m sure it will be okay.” She took a calming breath. “Excellent.” A smile formed on Bowen’s lips. “That’ll be perfect. It will be dark when we go to the graveyard.” ![]()
