About Anneli Lort
Author BioAnneli Lort lived with a charming cast of characters in her head for a number of years before she found the time to sit down and bring them to life in the Appleton Vale series. Once she put pen to paper her imagination was free to create a character driven world of contemporary romance that is both heartwarming and engaging. In a public relations career that spanned more than two decades Anneli worked closely with elite professionals at the highest level and with some of the world’s biggest sporting companies. With this came an access-all-areas pass to the greatest sports events on the planet where she saw for herself the tension, drama and emotions that were played out behind the scenes. While TV audiences around the world watched the sporting excitement unfold, she was there to witness first-hand what really happened before and afterwards – the untold stories the rest of the world never got to see. This is the rich and enviable background she brings to her debut novel - The Sweet Spot. Anneli lives in a village much like her fictional creation - Appleton Vale - that is nestled against the foothills of the South Downs. She spends her days working in brand communications, writing, walking her dog – Hector – and riding her New Forest Pony Henry. The dog shares the house; the horse has his own rather spacious accommodation. Anneli is currently writing the second novel in the Appleton Vale series - The Country Club - which will be on sale in December 2017.

At that moment, the door crashed open, hitting the coat stand behind it. A draught of autumn air and wood-smoke hit Olivia, and she looked around to see the very man she was here to work with, Sebastian Bloom, six feet and two inches of perfection. He was broad-shouldered with thick dark hair, cut short; his olive-skinned, angular face was breathtakingly chiselled, with a defiant chin. Dressed casually in what she recognised as an ultra-stylish, ultra-expensive Damian de Landre tweed jacket and jeans, he commanded the room before he set foot in it.
They hadn’t met before, even though she’d spent time at some of the more prestigious golf tournaments interviewing his peers. She knew he was good-looking, but close up he was mesmerising. Sebastian had the rare condition of Heterochromia, which had gifted him one smouldering brown eye and one exotic dark green eye under long, thick lashes. For the first time in her working life, and with all the fabulously famous sporting stars she had met, she went a little weak at the knees. Pull yourself together, Carmichael, said the little voice of reason in her head. This is purely professional.
Sebastian strode across the saloon towards her, stopping briefly to kiss Susie and exchange greetings with Tom. “You must be Olivia?” He offered his hand and Olivia, somewhat nervous, extended hers towards him.
“Yes, that’s me, guilty as charged,” she grinned and noticed a ghost of a smile cross his face.
“Welcome to Appleton Vale. I trust you’ve settled in already. I’d like to start work as soon as possible if that’s ok with you? Tomorrow morning around nine o’clock?”
It was more of a demand than a suggestion. Olivia immediately switched into work mode, her professionalism at the very top of her list of attributes when it came to dealing with superstars and their egos.
“Tomorrow’s Saturday, not strictly a working day,” she replied carefully, matching her words with a smile so as not to appear rude.
“Does that make a difference?” Sebastian replied. “Feel free to bring the dog if you want to.” He stooped down and acknowledged Hector’s presence with a loving chin scratch and then he was gone, leaving Olivia smarting in his wake, but unable to stop herself from sneaking an admiring look as he walked away.
She swung back round to the bar and looked at Susie, whose embarrassment was evident. “Who the hell does he think he is?” she demanded through gritted teeth. “I know he’s had a rough time of it lately but that was just downright rude. I haven’t even set foot inside the cottage, let alone had a chance to settle in.”
Susie, flustered, leant over the bar and thrust an envelope into Olivia’s hand. “He’s a wonderful man, take my word for it.” She was becoming an expert in explaining away Sebastian’s boorish behaviour. “These are the keys to Brook Cottage. Get yourself sorted, and tend to Sebastian in your own time. His bark is worse than his bite, and I’m pretty sure you can stand up for yourself. Don’t judge him on what you’ve read and what your journalist friends have told you, he really is smashing when he’s on form,” she added with a smile. “Now, off you go. Pop in later and I’ll have something delicious ready for your supper; you can’t cook on your first night.”
“I thought you were having a night between the sheets with Tom?” Olivia raised an eyebrow and smiled.
“He can wait. Besides, it’s only supper,” Susie smiled warmly. “So I’ll see you later?”
Olivia smiled, nodded her agreement and pulled on her jacket to brave the unseasonably cold wind outside. She didn’t have far to go as Brook cottage was just fifty yards down the road from the pub. Convenient, she thought, when writer’s block sets in, of course.

USA Today and International bestselling author J.C. Valentine is back with the latest in her electrifying, dangerous, and provocative world of the Spartan Riders MC…
After escaping an abusive marriage, Spartan Riders bartender Ginger “Red” Mercury is determined to live life on her own terms. When the club’s VP declares her untouchable and stakes his own claim on her, she finds herself ready to wage war.
A year after inoculating the threat from notorious cartel leader Ricky Cruiz, Garrick “Repo” Stone, the last-standing original member of the Spartan Riders MC, has his focus on something else: monogamy. Having decided to settle down and take an ol’ lady, he has his sights set on Red…and he has his work cut out for him if he hopes to win her.
When a new threat makes itself known, threatening everything the brothers stand for and care about, they’re left scrambling to find out who’s behind it before it’s too late. With the high-stakes game of war looming over them, will Red be able to open her heart to love before outside forces pull her and Repo apart?
Ginger opened her eyes to the feel of Garrick’s fingertips lightly stroking the side of her face and realized she’d fallen asleep.
Breathing deep, she sat back, wincing at the pinch in her spine. “How long was I out?” she asked groggily as she touched her fingers to her hot, damp cheek—the one that’d been pressed against his chest.
“About an hour.” Garrick plucked his shirt, grimacing. “You drool.”
“I do not!” Ginger flushed, feeling fifty shades of embarrassed. Because sometimes she did drool. But she was not about to admit that.
“Tell that to my shirt.” He looked over at her and smirked. “No worries, babe. Your secret is safe with me. Besides, it’s nice to know you have at least one flaw.”
Ginger scowled, then frowned as his words registered. “You thought I was, what, perfect?”
“The thought had occurred to me.” Standing, Garrick crossed his arms over one another, grabbed the hem of his shirt, and stripped it over his head.
Ginger could only stare at the perfection he presented. Even for an older man, he had an incredible body. It was obvious from the thick, defined muscle that he took care of himself. And that dusting of salt and pepper hair that ran in an upside-down V from his chest to his waistband got her panties all in a twist.
He was so masculine and sexy, it hurt to look at him.
Licking her lips, Ginger remembered their conversation. “Well, I’m not perfect. I’m just me. You though…wow.”
Oh man, had she just said that out loud? Garrick’s gaze captured hers, and yeah, she definitely had. And it was clearly going to his head.
And not the one in his pants.
“Like what you see?”
Well, she’d already stuck her foot in it. No sense in beating around the bush now. “You know I do.” They’d had sex before, and she’d let him go down on her last night. Considering how wet she’d been then, it should be obvious.
“Then maybe,” Garrick said, his gruff voice full of seduction as he leaned down over her, bracing his hands on the back of the couch, so she had to tilt her head all the way back to meet his eyes, “you should act on it.”
Ginger pressed her lips together. Her fingers itched to touch him, to explore the body that’d felt so good on hers so long ago. She wanted to get properly reacquainted. But should she? She’d already messed up and let him do things she never should have allowed. If she took this step, if she let him have her completely…he’d have her completely.
And he knew it.

Chapter 1: Check-In
As told by Essence…
I watched him walk down the aisle with such confidence. He was the epitome of fine, standing at least 6’5 with dark brown skin and a low caesar cut. Even through his charcoal grey Armani suit you could see the definition of his masculine frame. As he walked closer to me, my heart began to beat out of my chest. I squirmed in my seat, unable to sit still. My body flushed with warmth as chills went up my spine at the same time. He was moving closer, and with each step I began to melt in my seat. A stranger with such a big effect on me. How was this even possible? I just knew he’d walk right past me and I’d go unnoticed, but he suddenly stopped at my row and lifted his carry-on bag up into the overhead compartment. I could smell the Acqua Di Gio cologne seeping from his pores like a whiff of fresh air. I closed my eyes in bliss.
“Excuse me, Miss? Miss?” A deep baritone interrupted my thoughts, causing me to nearly jump out of my seat. “Whoa, I didn’t mean to alarm you, but I’m in seat D.” He laughed, showing off his dimples, as he showed me his ticket. As his hand extended forward, I checked out an empty ring finger.
“Oh, um…excuse me.” I fumbled over my words as I straightened my hair and stood up to let him over. I could see him lick his lips as he looked me up and down. I waited for him to take his seat, and I shimmied my way back into the row. I arched my back and sat down as slowly as I could. I knew he was looking at me. I could see his dimples from the corner of my eye.
“My name is Malcolm.” He reached his hand out to shake. I looked up from his neatly manicured nails to his face. His goatee was full and neatly trimmed.
I took his hand. “Essence.” I grinned.
“Ahh…indispensable,” he whispered.
“Excuse me?” I asked.
Laughing, he stated, “indispensable is the denotation of essence.”
My grin faded as I shied away, turning my face from him.
“Please don’t stop smiling.” He whispered to me as his soft hands touched my chin and gently turned my face to match his.
My breathing picked up, trying to compensate for the breath he stole away from me.
“You’re beautiful, Essence.” His big brown eyes stared deeply into mine. I went to speak, but no words would form. He detached his hand from my chin and looked forward, leaving me to stare at the side of his face in awe.
Mariah James, born and raised in Rochester, New York. She is the owner of Press Three Seventeen Publishing. Her first novel, Planez was released in August 2016. Shortly after its release, Mariah was nominated for Best Author at the 2017 Roc Awards. Mariah discovered her passion for writing at a very young age. As a child she spent much time reading and writing. She uses writing as an outlet; you can feel the passion in her words as you read. For more examples of her literacy works be sure to follow her blog at www.mjayscorner.com.
Get to know Mariah:
When did you realize you wanted to be a writer?
I realized I wanted to be a writer when I couldn’t think of anything else better to do. As a kid my favorite pastime was reading and writing. I’d get lost in a book. I would try to guess what would happen next, I would twist the plot around, and so I started writing my own stories, poems, or even two lined paragraphs.
What would you say is your interesting writing quirk? My interest writing quirk would be music! I get a lot of inspirations from my favorite songs, even songs that are not my favorite. There may be a lyric in the song that will spark an entire plot.
What do you like to do when you’re not writing? When I am not writing, I like to watch movies with my son. I also spend time with family and friends. I do a lot of reading when I am not writing as well, it keeps my mind busy.
What advice do you have for writers? I would tell writers to write! That story you have buried inside of you needs to come out. There is someone dying to hear it. Don’t worry about the critics, don’t worry about making mistakes, don’t think about failure! Just write!
Did you ever consider writing under a pseudonym? I considered a penname at first due to fear. I write urban romance novels, so the content can get a little juicy. I was worried about how I would be viewed by the people who know me. I decided to go with my birthname because once I completed my first novel, I was too proud of myself to hide behind a pseudonym.
If you could tell your younger writing self anything, what would it be? I would tell young Mariah to not give up on her dreams. For a long time I gave up writing, as hard as it was to fight the urge, I gave it all up. I made excuses for why I couldn’t be a writer, why I couldn’t get published, why, why, why. It wasn’t until I came to terms that, I am a Writer; my soul bleeds through words and I needed to release what was inside of me.
Do you believe in writer’s block? I do not believe in writer’s block. Writer’s break? YES! It is important as a writer, to take the necessary “breaks” we need. It may seem as if ideas are hard to come by, but they are never too far away. We are so critical on ourselves, so we tend to shoot down ideas we have and interpret that as writer’s block. The truth is, we need to write out those ideas, in order to get to a better one!
