![]() “Lois Mc Allister typifies the voracious writer that I was when I was a child,” according to CS Reid. “All YA writers have a childlike, inner voice that shines through their main characters. Lois personifies a brilliant, budding writer who acknowledges her eccentricities and her burgeoning, literary talents.” Fiction At My Fingertips illustrates the narrative of Lois Mc Allister, a charismatic bibliophile, who is a voracious writer. Truth be told, narratives pour out of her being with ease and she recognizes that she is developing into a writer with a singular voice. When her language arts teacher, Ms. Williams, informs the class that they will be, submitting original narratives to a regional contest, Lois is catapulted into the stratosphere. However, an unfortunatemishap could derail Lois’ literary debut. Click the book to read an Excerpt. Her work has appeared in diverse publications—most notably are: The Truth About the Fact: International Journal of Literary Nonfiction Anthology, Shadowtrain, Blue Fifth Review, Burner Magazine, and Monkeybicycle; chapbook, Walking Near the Precipice (Lily Press, 2007) and ebook, Intonations Heard in the Desert (Gold Wake Press, 2008); YA book, Plucking Poetry from the Air (Paraguas Books, 2010). Reid is a freelance writer, educator, and Jazz composer/musician in Los Angeles, CA. Get to know CS: What inspired your book? Lois Mc Allister is based off of my character. Lois typifies the voracious writer that I was when I was a teen. There was a need for readers to read narratives that encourage them (readers) to want to become actively involved in the writing process. Fiction At My Fingertips encourages teens to acknowledge that their voices and opinions are worthy to be shared on the page. Why did you pursue a writing career? There is a “voice” infinitely circulating inside my being. Essentially, I write to allow said voice to air itself via narratives that are identifiable and resonate a contemporary language to the YA reader. Why are female characters important to you as an author? Female characters are vital to the narratives that I compose. Female readers need to be inspired to want to be creative and intelligent beings that are far more, than just supportive individuals, who have been relegated secondary positions. It is integral that female readers are nurtured to explore all the avenues that are available to them; and to veer into areas that are foreign to females. It is high time that females are afforded opportunities that display their brilliance and capabilities. How long have you been publishing your work? Essentially, I have been publishing my work since 2006. I write in multiple genres: poetry, fiction, YA, critical reviews (music/film/literary), playwriting, scriptwriting, and songwriting. It is my belief that all writers should challenge themselves and veer out of their comfort zones by composing in diverse genres. What’s your writing environment like? My writing environment is my bedroom. I have a huge L-shaped desk where I work at throughout the evening. I have a 9-to-5 like most writers, so I work after I have taken a nap; and am able to focus on my projects with a clear mindset. Also, I am the type of writer that can write anywhere; as long the environment is fairly, quiet. Moreover, I always carry my journals with me everywhere and I transfer my writings to my laptop. What are you most passionate about? What gets you fired up? I am passionate about encouraging young people to develop an interest in writing. Writing is a means to self-empowerment. What projects are you currently working on? Currently, I am wrapping up a YA narrative that centers on encouraging teens to want to study Jazz; and to learn about the exceptional artists that were the pioneers of this innovative art form. Additionally, I am working on a short film that captures how survivors of a cataclysmic event, must adapt to their circumstances by implementing Spartan-like modes of behaviors. When Samantha and Steven meet early in their senior year of college, the attraction is both immediate and powerful. And why not? She’s the kind of woman every man desires, and he’s the man at the center of every woman’s dreams. The two of them quickly forge a strong bond, creating their own little world, a world that they permit only one other person to
enter: Steven’s roommate, Paul, every bit a hunk in his own right. Now two become three, forming a group dynamic that one of their friends, a sociologist, says is “almost scary, how much in sync you guys are.” The Backup Husband follows Steven, Samantha and Paul as they finish that last year of college and enter their young adult years, the bond among them seemingly unbreakable, until the most powerful force in the world intrudes, exposing how fragile the walls of their world really are. From Pittsburgh to Paris to San Francisco and beyond, their story unfolds, with moments of unbridled joy punctuated by periods of unbearable sadness. Along the way, each of the main characters is confronted by one question: What am I willing to do, or not do, in the name of love? Their responses to that question will send them all down a path from which there can be no return, one that will dramatically alter their lives in ways that none of them could have foreseen. Aisha Linnea an up and coming author from Baltimore speaks volumes to the new generation with her debut novel “Never Trust A Soul”.
Aisha learned how to balance a demanding work and personal life as a single mother. As life began to change Aisha knew that she had a story to tell which gave birth to her ambitions to become a writer. Self publishing her first novel Aisha has focused on her new found passion of writing. She will continue to give ground breaking messages that will challenge all generations on ideas of love, trust, loyalty and beyond. As the momentum from her first book continues she wants her readers to know that “Never Trust A Soul” is just the beginning. Get to know Aisha: Who is Aisha Linnea the author vs Aisha Linnea the person? Aisha Linnea the author and Aisha Linnea the person are one in the same. My writing includes a piece of me and my experiences, although the stories are exaggerated they all include real feelings and emotions that I am passionate about. The author in me is able to express things differently and give a perspective that maybe easier for someone to receive. But everyone that knows me knows that I have always been an outspoken person. What is the meaning of “Never Trust a Soul” and why did you use that title? The meaning of “Never Trust a Soul” is that you can’t take people for their exterior facade. You have to really get into the inner essence of the human being. When I say “soul”, I am talking about a person’s deeply felt moral and emotional nature. I used the title because I was connected to it. I began writing the story and midway the title just rolled off of my tongue. Also It speaks to the moral and emotional dilemma that people face when having relationships. What message are you trying to convey to your readers? I wrote this book for women of all ages, I have a special place in my heart for younger women because I have a daughter of my own that I wanted to be able to share this message with.Too many times young women are going out into the world unequipped with the necessary tools to discern someone who has your best interest at heart verses someone who is using you for their own agenda. As a young woman we have to make sure that we are asking the right questions, being aware, and trusting our initial instincts, and when something seems too good to be true it usually is. Why do you feel your book is so important to the youth of today? I know that this book is important because this generation is not informed enough. In this day and age with so much going on in our communities as adults we have to be able to provide the younger generation tools to be able to empower themselves. It is important to know that karma is real and that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction, which is one of newtons law. So even on a scientific level the world is telling us that we have to be prepared for the outcome of the actions that we make. Why did you make a trailer for your book? In today’s society social media has become so important that you can put a message up today and have a million views by tomorrow. I wanted to grab the attention of people and let them know that books are still around, there is still a good story line and a plot. I put my video up on Worldstar and YouTube and was able to reach people that I would have never reached by just posting on my page “come buy my book”. I wanted it to be different and unique and I feel that my readers were pleased. Why did you choose to self-publish instead of using a well known publishing company? I chose to self-publish because I am a new author, and I know that no one would be able to offer me what I could offer myself. One of my goals was to go into business for myself. When I looked at the deals that other authors were getting, it didn’t make good business sense. I felt so strongly about the message that I was putting into this book and I didn’t want my story to be watered down in order to fit what a publishing company had as a vision for me. What are your goals for the book “ Never Trust a Soul” in 2015? What are your goals as an author that you would like to accomplish by 2016? My goal for 2015 is to be able to get my book out there. I want it to be in book stores, on bookshelves, and I want it to be in as many hands as possible. I want everyone to hear this story, share this story and take away from it, that this could be someones life and that you can’t just walk around with blinders on oblivious to what is going on around you. As an author I want to be able to grow my brand and, grow as a person. With the tumultuous climate in the country I know that I have to be a voice, a beacon of change for my city and for lost people that can not speak for themselves. I want to be able to do an outreach program for young women in the city of Baltimore, which will equip them with knowledge and skills to be more confident when making important decisions regarding their livelihoods.
