This time next week, Junior Year will be out on Amazon (as long as they aren't on games lol)! But until then, here's the first page of the book for Sample Sunday. :)

alexis.

“Babe, you gotta believe me.”

I was trying my best to wrap my head around what was happening even though the pounding of my heart and the sweat accumulating in my palms were making things ten times harder to process.

I had literally just gotten back to California.

Ready to take on another school year.

Ready to move into my new apartment.

Ready to enjoy some blissfulness with Jaden.

And someone had anonymously sent me a picture with their mouth wrapped around his dick, implying that they had kept him busy while I was home for the summer. They called themselves, “My worst fuckin’ nightmare” and no matter how much I tried to fight the sentiment, it was definitely ringing true.

“Jaden, don’t try to fuckin’ play me. I know your dick and that is definitely your dick.”

“That’s gotta be somebody from the past Lexi, I swear. I would never do that shit to you. I mean, I wasn’t the most virtuous dude before I met you so it could be a number of people, but that shit definitely wasn’t from the summertime.” I really didn’t know what to believe. Jaden had always been honest with me about things, but I knew he wasn’t the most honest person when it came to his previous relationships so maybe those bad habits were finally starting to surface. My face was frozen in a thoughtful scowl as I tried to digest the last thing I expected to see when I opened the message in the first place. I must’ve stayed in my own head for too long as Jaden piped out, “Babe, please talk to me. Tell me what you’re thinking.”

Book Baby Number 3 is alive and well! Thanks to everyone that has purchased thus far. I am sooo looking forward to reading your reviews. For those of you that haven't, here's a sample to entice you. :)

I walked into the venue for the event and was impressed with what the team had put together. There were life-size pictures of each of the girls hanging from the ceiling making the guests of honor clear for those who may have been unsure. The room was decked in enough pink to make someone sick but since it was the group’s signature color, it worked. I could only dream of what it would look like once my ideas were implemented. As I made my way further in, taking in all of the fine details of the space, I felt a heavy hand on the small of my back before the person it belonged to showed their face.

“Wow Ariel. You look amazing. You always look amazing.”

“Thank you si...AJ.”

“No thank you for getting here early. I wanted you to get a little hands-on experience with some of the prep work before you were working on things of this sort on your own.” It made total sense no matter how much I was bothered by the fact that his hand, surely with an untanned line from the removal of his wedding ring, was still on my back.

“Gotcha. Well, I should probably get to it then.” I tried to get away but he grabbed me gently by the wrist pulling me back towards him.

“What’s the rush? How about we grab a drink first?” I pulled my wrist from his grip, returning it to its rightful place by my side.

“Sorry but I don’t drink on the job. Who can get work done like that?”

Apparently I was a little naïve about the whole thing as he quickly replied, “Quite a few people in this industry, me included. Now come on. One little drink won’t hurt you. And if it does...well you aren’t fully responsible for this event anyway so it’ll be fine. I’ll give you a pass.” He gave me his million dollar smile, pleading with his eyes for me to join him. Everything he was saying sounded like a bad idea, but I wasn’t really in a position to turn down a drink from my boss so I followed his invitation to the bar. He ordered a whiskey and coke for himself and a Ciroc and pineapple for me. I watched the bartender really closely, mentally calculating his severely over-poured shot.

Or maybe he was instructed to do that.

I kindly asked for a few more ice cubes with the hopes of being able to babysit the drink just long enough so that the ice would water it down.

“So Ariel, you went to U of C right? You know that’s my alma mater too.” Of course I knew it was his alma mater considering there was a building in my college named after him for his millions in donations.

“What were you? Class of ‘85? ‘90?”

He laughed harder than I expected him to before he said, “That’s a good one. Actually Class of ‘98.”

“Wanna know what I was doing in ‘98? Still playing with Barbies and worried about whoopin’ ass in hopscotch.” He laughed again and this time I actually gave him a smile as I took a little sip of the drink.

“You’re really funny Ariel. But I can imagine your priorities being a little different than mine at the time. Lucky for us, they’re about the same now.” He placed his hand on my knee under the bar counter and it made my skin crawl. He was eying me, trying to gauge my reaction to his touch and I wasn’t sure what to do. I wasn’t quite ready to lose my job for going off on him but I also didn’t want him getting too comfortable. A few jabs here and there I could take, but getting touchy-feely was crossing the line. So I stood up from the bar stool, using the excuse of needing to go to the bathroom. Surprisingly enough, he actually bought it.

I got to the bathroom and took my time freshening up my hair, freshening up my make-up, checking my phone, seeing what was trending on Twitter, just about anything I could think of to make AJ stop waiting for me. As I scrolled through tweet after tweet, a text came through.

Boss Man 1: You don’t have to play games. I get it. You can come out now.

Shit.

So he was up on game. Of course he was. He was older and surely had enough experience to read right through my antics. Instead of texting back, I walked out of the bathroom with my hand on my stomach acting like I was sick.

“Sorry about that. The sushi I had before I came must’ve been bad.” I pulled out my phone and said, “Oh, you text me?” I saw a sliver of panic in his expression before he went back to his normal, calm demeanor.

“Disregard it sweetheart. I must’ve sent it to the wrong person.”

I recognized his attempt at a save; a good one but not good enough for me to stop making him uncomfortable. It was the only way I knew I could keep him off my back; well off me period.

“So does your wife ever come to these events?”

“Nah, we’re actually separated. The only thing we have in common is our two kids.” I knew he was lying as I had just seen him and his wife in a picture from some awards show not even two weeks ago. It couldn’t have happened that fast.

Or did it?

“How old are your kids?”

I knew so much about the man that I could answer most of the questions myself but I hoped bringing up the fact that he had a family would deter him from even thinking about having a chance with me.

“My son just turned eighteen and my daughter is fifteen.”

“When your son turns twenty-one, tell him to come holla at me.”

Because we’re a lot closer in age than you and I.

He gave me his usual smirk of amusement as he said, “I’ll pass along the message though I’m not sure he wants to compete with his old man.” He was coming on to me full-fledge, unapologetically, and I knew if I didn’t make things clear fast that he would automatically categorize me as someone he could get.

“Mr. Jones, I’m here for business and business only.” He actually looked entertained by my statement like he had heard the version I really wanted to give him.

You greasy mothafucka. Nobody wants your old halfway married ass.

But since I wasn’t anywhere near drunk and my thoughts were able to subside instead of be spoken aloud, he simply replied, “What’s the fun in business if you can’t have a little pleasure?”

Whew! So I can't hardly wait to release this bad boy! I actually...like real life might not be able to wait until April 10th lol. Ariel and Jamison are kind of like my favorites right now (until I get back into Alexis and Jaden of course lol). But here's a sample to get you all pumped and ready for April 10th!

ariel.

“Ariel! Where have you been? I called you at least 100 times!” I was trying to find my place in the line-up for my college and Jasmine was right on my tracks like she didn’t have a place of her own to be.

“Doesn’t matter. I made it.” She crossed her arms over her chest, analyzing my demeanor. Jasmine and I had been the best of friends since I first got to college so she knew me well enough to know something was different. But I damn sure wasn’t in the mood to tell her exactly what. Unfortunately, I didn’t have to say anything for her to put two and two together.

“Oh my gosh. You...and Jamison. You little skank.”

I snatched her in close before I said, “Would you shut up? And don’t you have somewhere to be?”

“My college is last and since I was here on time unlike you, I know exactly where I have to be. But damn girl, it must’ve been good if it almost made you miss graduation.” I hadn’t had much time to even think about it. But now, since I had a free moment, I could remember every...blissful…stroke.

And did he really have to look that good first thing in the morning?

I was snapped out of my daydream by the sounds of the graduation processional music. Jasmine gave me a pat on the shoulder and a smile before strutting to the back of the line.

- & -

“Graduation has you glowing baby!” I smiled for the hundredth picture my parents had taken of me holding my diploma. A bunch by myself. A bunch with family members. A bunch with family friends. A bunch with them. But I would keep on smiling as it was a special moment, brought largely in part by the college fund they had set up for me from birth. As we arranged for yet another family photo, I was surprised to see a now familiar face watching me; waiting for me in the distance. I knew he was going to be at graduation, for his cousin Drew, but I didn’t think we would actually run into each other. After a few snaps, I told everyone I would be right back and headed his way.

“Congratulations Ariel. These are for you.” He handed me a bouquet of flowers and I couldn’t help but be flattered. Hell, there were people I had dated for months and never gotten flowers from and he was already giving them on the first day.

First and last.

“Thank you Jamison. These are beautiful. How’d you know tulips were my favorite?”

“I saw you had some on display in your apartment and figured they wouldn’t still be there if you didn’t like them. And I locked your door for you. Even though I don’t know why you would trust a stranger like that.” Now that I had the chance to think about it, it wasn’t the smartest of moves on my part. But something about Jamison seemed so legit that I would probably do it again.

If there ever was an again.

“Well excuse me for seeing you as a genuine soul who wouldn’t rob me.”

“You’re right. I didn’t rob you. Well except for a granola bar. A brotha was hungry. Oh, and a little mouthwash.”

“Consider it a parting gift.” I said it in a friendly manner but I could see an ounce of dismay in his eyes.

“Indeed. Well I better catch up with Drew.”

“Yeah, you do that. Tell him I said congrats.”

“I will. You take care Ariel.” I wanted to give him a hug, a kiss, something that would allow him to linger for just a little while longer. But instead, I just watched his confident strut until he disappeared into the crowd. I would’ve been lying if I said I wasn’t disappointed. Not that I expected anything out of a one-night stand but of course one of the nicest guys I had ever encountered had also been in my life for the shortest amount of time.

At least I got the D.

College graduation is only the beginning for Ariel as she lands her dream job working for a record label in The Big Apple. Not only is it the beginning of her professional career, but also the beginning of an unexpected romance with Jamison, a self-assured recent grad who is also getting his foot in the door of the music industry at a competing record label. The collision of business and pleasure is inevitable but when Ariel receives a personal assignment to help take down her label’s top competition, she’s forced to make a decision; her career or her newfound love? Just how far will she have to go to get the edge?

Soooo....being that we are halfway through the Attractions & Distractions series, I decided to take a break from it. (I know I know, get the pitchforks out lol). It'll definitely come, sooner than later, but I've been working on something a little different that I hope you all will enjoy just as much as A&D. To convince you that everything is all good, here's a sample from my latest WIP (author jargon lol), Getting The Edge. Coming April 2015.

jamison.

I poured myself a glass of water before I walked the couple of steps to the couch in my new studio apartment. Moving to NYC before I actually had a job was risky, but I wouldn’t have done it if I didn’t believe in myself which I surely did. Some called me cocky, but it was usually the same people who had no idea how hard I worked to get to where I was. My parents were there, for the most part, but I still had to grind my way out of the hood just like many of the bosses holding positions that I saw myself getting in the future.

As I flipped through my basic cable channels, I couldn’t help but smiling when I landed on the movie, The Little Mermaid. It reminded me of her, the girl who stole a little piece of me with her charm, bold attitude, and sexy ass body. Oh, and crazy skills in the bedroom. You would think we had actually been together for some time the way I seemed to miss her touch. What was even crazier was the fact that I didn’t even get her number.

I picked up my phone and found Drew’s name in my contacts. Maybe he could help me out. I watched the animated sea animals sing until he answered.

“Yo, what’s up fam?”

“Drew. Question. Did you umm…get that one girl’s number from the club when I was out there?”

“Who Jasmine? Hell nah man. She didn’t even let me hit. Once you left with ol’ girl, she took a cab of her own.” I wasn’t surprised that Drew didn’t pull her but his lack of game wasn’t helping my cause at all.

“Damn. Do ya’ll have like a school directory or something?” I couldn’t believe the desperate measures I was taking to get to her.

“Who knows shit like that? I barely made it out of there and you think I know if we have a damn directory? What you need that shit for anyway?” I had to think of an answer that wouldn’t make me sound so thirsty.

“I’m looking for a phone number.”

There was a long pause before I could tell he caught on, “Ohhh, this is about that bad bitch Ariel huh? I can’t believe I was here for years and never saw her before.”

“Aye, don’t call her a bitch man. But I’m sure you never saw her because her ass was in class unlike yourself.”

He laughed into the phone before he said, “Trueeee. But nah bruh, I mean I can ask around for you.” I was tempted to have him put out the search parties but then I realized maybe it wasn’t meant to be. Maybe she was supposed to be a memory. A pleasant, blissful, memory that I would have a hard time letting go of.

Check out a Sample from the latest book of the Attractions & Distractions Series, Sophomore Year, now available on Amazon!

I knew Jordan had planned to introduce me to his friends since I was gonna be around more often so I wasn’t surprised by the act. What I was surprised by was the way my mouth seemed to go dry when we approached who I assumed Jordan was gonna introduce me to. Dude wasn’t even cute. He was fine.

Tall, caramel, muscular, tattooed, and fine.

“Little sister, this is my boy Bryson. Bryson, this is my bigheaded little sister I was tellin’ you about.”

Did he really have to add that?

I tried to hide my instant attraction to the tall glass of water as he extended his hand to me. I returned the handshake and was taken aback by the vibrations that seemed to go through my body the second I touched his palm. I pulled my hand back hoping he hadn’t caught the same tremors.

“It’s a pleasure to meet you Alexis. This dude has been talkin’ about you ever since you got back in town so I had to see what the hype was about.”

Hype?

“Well you can believe everything good he had to say.”

“And the bad stuff?”

“He made all that shit up.” Both guys started laughing and I was grateful to feel in control even though my body felt anything but. The problem with becoming intimate was the fact that I began to crave it, even when I was in no position to get it. I didn’t have a man. And I didn’t have Jaden. So what was a girl suppose to do?

I could never look at my hand the same.

Speaking of hands, I took a quick glance at his hands as he and Jordan were chatting and they were massive which only meant one thing. Why I was even considering that with someone I barely knew bothered me, but I couldn’t help but sweep my eyes a little lower trying to get a peek of his possible dick print. The lighting in the room didn’t help me out any so I let my eyes travel back up to find two sets of eyes burning into me. My cheeks instantly went rosy.

“What?”

“I asked you if you were excited to be living with these knuckleheads?”

“Oh...oh yeah...they’re cool peoples.” I wasn’t sure what all Jordan had disclosed about my relationship, or lack thereof, with Jaden so I kept things to a minimum.

“I agree. You’re in good hands with this dude here. That other one I’m not too sure about.”

 You got that right.

Both guys shared in a laugh once again and I tried my best to seem like I found the humor in it too.

“Yeah I’m sure she’s learned her lesson when it comes to that fool.” Jordan made the comment so innocently, but I could tell his friend had picked up on the undertones by the way his face changed. I had to switch things up quickly before too much was said that I wasn’t quite ready to explain considering I didn’t understand it very well myself.

“Well, it was nice to meet you. I’m sure I’ll see you around tonight.” It felt like a logical thing to say as a getaway. And I did want to see him again.

Maybe even alone.

I wish I could put this out like...yesterday! But, I don't want you all to judge me for my grammar errors so editing has to happen first ;/. Until then, enjoy this sample!

Coming March 2015!

I needed her. It had been far too long since the last time we made love. The way our bodies meshed together creating peak after peak of ecstasy was something my body continued to crave and I didn’t plan on going the rest of my life without feeling that again.

I didn’t think twice before I slipped out of bed, letting my feet gently dig into the plush carpet softening the sound of my landing. Opening the door was easy, but closing it would’ve caused too much noise so I left it cracked. I made my way down the stairs as best as my alcohol-induced state allowed me to. I rounded the corner, in hot pursuit of the door leading to the basement. But was stopped dead in my tracks by a familiar voice.

“Little brother, what the hell are you….aww damn.” I didn’t have to say anything for Jordan to catch on to what was happening. He took a deep sigh before he continued his interrogation, “Come on now man. Your girl is literally upstairs sleeping and you're creeping down to the basement? What has gotten into you?” No answer that came to mind sounded the least bit logical. I was clearly trippin’.

Damn vodka shots.

“I don’t get ya’ll man. Ya’ll be checkin’ for each other all day, but entertaining other people. You have a girlfriend literally in the same house, but you're sneaking around in hopes of getting some from her. That shit makes no sense.” She and I had never made any sense. When we did make sense, we were in love, but that was short-lived. It was clear she no longer felt that way.

If she ever felt that way…

“Little brother, are you listening to me? You are fuckin’ up...badly. Get it together.” Jordan was right. I was definitely fuckin’ up. On so many levels. The task of resisting her magnetic pull over me had grew to new heights. And she hadn’t even done anything for me to be that damn attracted to her. In fact, she did everything for me to be the least bit attracted to her. So why wasn’t I taking the bait? Cause I was a fool in love. Even still. But things would have to change for the sake of my sanity.

“You're right bro. I don’t know what got into me besides all that vodka I had.”

“Well you better stop lettin’ vodka write checks ya ass can’t cash.”

Happy Sample Sunday!

Here's a little somethin' somethin' from my first book, Attractions & Distractions: Freshman Year, now available on Amazon!

I shrugged off the sheet that was covering me to reveal that I was only in my bra and panties. Not by choice, but I couldn’t find any clothes to put on over it fast enough so I had given up. He licked his lips as he ogled me from head to toe. I felt so sexy under his gaze. He always made me feel sexy. He dropped the pajama pants he was wearing and pulled off his t-shirt, leaving him in only boxer briefs that clung to his muscular thighs. Then, he climbed into bed next to me.

At first we just laid there, parallel to each other. Then he rolled onto his side so he could actually see me again.

“Lexi…” he whispered my name, stroking my arm ever so gently. Even that innocent ass motion had me fired up.

“You were already the most beautiful woman I had ever seen. But this...my goodness.” I could only hear him; couldn’t see him because I didn’t have the energy to turn my head. He then placed a kiss on my shoulder blade, softly. And another one to my neck, softly. Then another on my cheek, softly. His eyes finally met my only partially opened ones. He was looking for a sign. A green light. So I licked my lips.

It's almost ready!! Here is another Sample from my first book coming February 2015, Attractions & Distractions: Freshman Year.

“I was thinking we could hang out since you’re done with classes...you know, the way friends do.” It sounded corny as hell but it was the best shot I had.

“I already told you. We are not friends.” There was so much attitude oozing from her that it almost seemed impossible for me to breakthrough. But I couldn’t give up. That would’ve been the easy way out and the easy way out had never gotten me anywhere I wanted to be.

“Why not?”

“Cause you’re a liar. And I don’t fuck with liars.” Something about her innocent, good girl look paired with her sometimey potty mouth screamed perfection.

“But I told you the truth. I deserve some credit for that right?” I was being desperate again but I didn’t care. That’s what happens when you have an unexplainable, undeniable attraction to someone. You do what you gotta do and you don’t give a shit about how it comes off.

Here is an excerpt from my very first book (*cheers*), Attractions and Distractions: Freshman Year.
Coming February 2015.

“You know, you’re kinda witty.”

“I’ve heard.”

“It’s sexy as hell.” I tensed all over, but especially in my upper thighs. Something about the way he expressed his attraction, his interest...in me...I couldn’t handle it. Maybe it was the age difference; he made me wanna grow up and be on that level.

“Are we done here?” I had to diffuse the situation fast. But the second it seemed like I was taking control, he made sure I wasn’t. He came back to what I considered my side of the desk, invading the little bit of breathing room I had.

“Do you wanna be?” He bit his bottom lip slowly, looking directly in my eyes. I clenched tighter.

“Yes.” It came out as more of a breath than anything. Surely not confident enough for him to stop his pursuit of me.

“I don’t believe you Alexis. I need you to do better than that.” And then he got closer; close enough to speak directly into my ear. I couldn’t inhale anything but his natural, manly, fiercely intoxicating scent. “Do you really wanna be done here? Or is there..more...we have to talk about?” My chest heaved up and down as I tried to clear my head enough to come up with the right answer.

An answer...that’s what I was working on right?

“I...I think we’re done here.” He repelled. And I was thankful to be able to breath again.
